British Columbia (short: BC) is the Westernmost province of Canada, between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
The capital city is Victoria situated on the Vancouver Island, while Vancouver is the largest city and the third metropole of Canada.
The legality of hitchhiking is described in BC's Motor Vehicle Act. According to section 182 (3), "A person must not be on a roadway to solicit a ride, employment or business from an occupant of a vehicle." However, the Act defines roadways to mean "the portion of the highway that is improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular traffic, but does not include the shoulder, and if a highway includes 2 or more separate roadways, the term "roadway" refers to any one roadway separately and not to all of them collectively (...)", albeit there are a number of highways which entirely bar pedestrian use (see external links). While this indicates that hitchhiking should be legal when standing on the shoulder of a highway, law enforcement may not be aware of the details of this legislation.

Golden
From Lake Louise continuing on Highway 1 eastbound
The streets split after Lake Louise - see that on google map. That will be a bit tricky. Highway 1 continues strait if you continue eastbound.
There is no town until GOLDEN. Field is only a hotel and a roadhouse - as far as I remember. A little town on the left side, away from the Highway. Gas station Golden right at the highway, its quite big, you should get all your supplies you need there. Hitchhiking from there is ok too.
Revelstoke
Highly recommendable, small and beautiful mountain town, beautiful river and small lake to swim in with the locals on hot summers day. Hiking in the national park of Revelstoke is recommendable, too. There are easy and difficult trails. Take the car up there (many curves). If you're camping in town, be aware that there are numerous black bears that roam the town at night, so stash your food away from your camp.
Westbound: Go across the bridge, as there is more room for cars to pull over.
Hitchhiking from Revelstoke eastbound
That one is tricky, cause the gas station is kind of out of the way from the highway. Better asking people at the gas station if they are going south. Try to hitch from the side of the town, before the bridge. Maybe there is a better spot before the gas station, but that needs to be explored by foot. An other alternative is to walk, east from the gas station up the service road to the Hwy 1, and Hwy 23 intersection. From that intersection walk an other 500m, and there will be a nice pull out for cars to stop. The distance to walk will be the same in each direction.
