Take the orange line all the way out to Vienna, the last stop westbound. From here, catch the 642 or 632 Fairfax Connector bus to Centreville. Check with the bus driver to make sure that the bus goes all the way. Sometimes the driver will let you off right near the highway, other times walk from town ~1km. The on-ramp from Sully Rd onto I-66 is the connector for Dulles Airport, so it is popular with folks going a fair distance. There are a pair of truck stops once you hit Interstate 81, just south of the town of Strasburg

Check out the hostel on K & 11th streets. The lobby has phones and internet (for a price) and free billiards. Wait until somebody swipes their keycard and then follow them in. On the second floor is a kitchen and TV room. Guests mark their food in the fridge with the date they're checking out, so feel free to help yourself to any food people have left behind. Use the kitchen as you please. You can sleep in the TV room.
