In the [[United Statesof America|American]] state '''Pennsylvania''' hitchhiking is only illegal on the Turnpike, so only do it on or near the on ramps. The police will never stop you from hitchhiking as long as you are not on the [[highway|interstate]] itself, where it is rightly considered a [[hitchhiker's safety|safety]] issue. Hitchhiking is generally well-received in rural areas of Pennsylvania. I-80 in particular has many good hitchhiking spots and is not heavily patrolled by police, and should be considered the optimal way of hitching across the state.
