It's not really possible to hitch out of the city center. Best is to take bus 15 from the Hlemmur bus stop towards [[Mosfellsbær]](Áholt station there is a rather good spot - very close to Route 1). There you can get out and start hitchhiking along the main road. If you want to go north (Borgarnes, Akureyri) it's also possible to take bus 57 towards [[Kjalarnes]] and get out there, but Akranes is further away from Route 1.
