Saransk (Russian: Саранск) is a major city in the Middle Volga region of Russia. It is the administrative center of the republic of Mordovia.

Hitchhiking out

South towards Penza and Saratov via R158

  • Buses No. 103 and 37 to the stop "Zem. kadastraya palata", then walk north to the junction.
  • Buses No. 28K and 28T to the stop "Televizionny zavod". Return to Lyambirskoye highway and walk north to the junction.
  • By suburban train to the station Ruzayevka, then walk to the police checkpoint at the exit from Ruzayevka.

North towards Arzamas and Nizhny Novgorod via R158

  • Bus No. 103 to the final stop "Lyambir". Walk along Sportivnaya street to the intersection with the highway.

East towards Surskoye and Ulyanovsk via R178

  • Police checkpoint near the village of Ozerny. Buses No. 16 and No. 30 turn into the village; you can ask to stop at the checkpoint, or exit the village on foot back to the highway. Bus No. 1 has its final stop at "Bolnitsa No.5", before reaching Ozerny.

Southeast towards the village of Kochkurovo via "Kochkurovskaya highway"

  • Buses No. 133 and 139 go to the village Kochkurovo; at the exit from the village is the stop "Sovetskaya".

West towards Krasnoslobodsk and the "Ural" highway (M5) via R180

  • Police checkpoint at the fork near the village of Penzyatka. It's better to hitchhike from the northern junction. See exit to Arzamas.
