Oryol (Russian: Орёл) is a city in Russia, located south of Moscow, at the confluence of the Oka and Orlik rivers. It is the administrative center of Oryol Oblast.

Hitchhiking out

South towards Belgorod via M2

  • You need to get to the "Gosplemobedinenie" bus stop in the Znamenska district. From there, it’s 700 meters to the end of the Kursk interchange. If you go directly from the stop to the gas station, you can hitchhike on the ring road. Minibuses № 312, 354, 445, 456, 457, 459, 482 terminate here. There is no police post in the south.

North towards Tula via M2

  • By suburban train towards Tula, get off at the "360 km" stop, walk 250 meters to reach the exit from the village of Stanovoe. Further railway and the "Crimea" highway (M2) connect near the stations "Cherny", "Gorbachevo", "Plavsk", "Zhitovo", "Shchekino".
  • City minibuses go only as far as Bulgakovo. From there, you can hitch a ride for another 4.5 km to the police post. The police + weight control post is 600 meters from the end of the ring road in the village of Nizhnyaya Kalinovka.

East towards Yelets, Lipetsk and Tambov via R119

  • By suburban train towards Maloarkhangelsk/Ponyri, get off at St. "Stanovoy Kolodez" or St. "Yeropkino". The highway is 700 meters to the east.
  • Take minibus №421 to Telecenter. There are several gas stations and trucker cafes on the highway.

West towards Bryansk, Roslavl, Smolensk and Vitebsk via R120

  • Take a suburban train in the Bryansk direction to "Naryshkino" station (35 min) or "Karachev" station (2 hours).
  • By minibus № 59, reach the Europe shopping center. The position for Bryansk is behind the traffic light, near the gas station, right at the city exit.
  • By minibus №420, you can go to Karachevskoye highway up to the turn to "Obraztsovo".

North towards Belyov, Peremyshl, and Kaluga via R92

  • Go out to the village Pleshcheyevo. From the opposite side of the city (from Gosplemobedinenie), minibuses №445 and 457 depart. From Telecenter - №421. From Severnoye (from the Tula side) - №464. City transport doesn’t go further. You have to walk about 2 km to the end of the village. The towns Bolhov, Belyov, and Chekalin do not have ring roads. Get out before entering them and select a passing car.

Hitchhiking in

  • Entry to Oryol is mainly via the M2 "Crimea" highway, which bypasses the city from the southeast. There is no bypass on the west if coming from Bryansk or Belyov, so you may need to cross the city. Walking from Karachevskoye highway through the city straight to the ring road takes about 45-60 minutes. City hitchhiking works well behind the bus terminal towards the ring road.
  • Suburban trains from Oryol go towards Bryansk, Verkhovye, Mikhailovsky Rudnik, and Tula. Check for schedule changes/cancellations on [Yandex schedule](https://rasp.yandex.ru/station/9600806?direction=all&type=suburban).
