We were really lucky, we just come there and a kind man offered himself to take us to montpellier. He told us that there are often hitch-hikers waiting and that's not hard to get a ride.

Language: EnglishOn this side of the road, just before the highway, there is a cobblestone area where cars can pull over. It's not the most perfect spot, but walking from the ferry, i found it the best. Took me forty minutes.

We tried to get a ride to France from here but it turned out to be very difficult. There were a few people going this way but they didn't take us (a girl and me). The problem is that if you wanna go to France you need someone who's going directly since there is no gas station before people turn from the A5 to Switzerland towards Mulhouse. So what we did was taking a ride to the north until the second gas station near Appenweiher. There you can easily switch to the other side of the highway just crossing a bridge. We found a ride immediately to France and made it until Marseille at the same day.

Language: EnglishThis is a stop lane around 50m north-east of the metro station. If you come from the station you need to cross the road once (danger this is a quite high speed road but cars arrive in waves due to traffic lights). Good point: Police passed once seeing us waiting and did nothing.

Indeed, this place looks perfect but a big deal of cars stay in the city. Just walk a few hundred meters along the Hansastrasse and wait near the McDonalds store.

Language: EnglishAlthough it took me about 4h to get a hitch to Almería, this is not a bad place to get a lift. A few km away the motorway splits into two: one goes to Almería, and the other to Murcia: most trucks were going to the latter. Some cars/trucks did also stop here on their way to Granada.

This is good for cars south to Granada. It took me 15-20mins to get a hitch.

We have waited there at least 20mins and no one stopped us. there are only taxis and if you will see the normal car, its full or its not going to Aarhus. We had to walk all of this way to the big crossroad on highway-during 45mins of walk to this point, no one have stopped us.

Language: EnglishGreat place when you are going to Aarhus airport/Grena or anywhere in the north-east part of Jutland. We were hitchhiking at the bus stop Grenåvej /Ravnsøvej and got the car in 15 mins. Just remember that you are standing at the bus stop and if you stop a car and talk with the person, the bus driver behind you will be nervous as waiting for free space :)

Depending on where you go, it's definitely a good spot. If you are planning to go back to direction Saarbrücken coming from Luxembourg, it is a hard spot if you wanna find a direct hitch. We then decided to take the route via Metz to SB. To Metz/Nancy/Thionville it's easy to find cars.

Language: EnglishBus stop right after the big intersection. I was hitchhiking several times from here just to the next village Schallstadt which is maybe 7 kilometres to go. Never waited any longer than 15 minutes so definitely faster than going to the central station waiting for the next train.

Not the best spot! The cars are driving very fast here because they're the highway. And that place where cars is supposed to be able to pull in, isn't very good - though it is possible. I ended up giving it up after 2 hours

Here's a roundabout which slows down the cars and bus stops on both sides of it with lot of space to pull off and very useful in case of rain - which is pretty common here.

I was incredibly lucky during the rush hour (cca. 4pm) and after just 10 min Romanian truck driver stopped for me in the traffic jam and took me all the way to Oslo :-)

This spot is also good to go north despite other spots in the north of Umeå might be more convenients It is worth walking down to the A4 roundabout 1 km further south, Many lorry drivers coming from South will stop at this petrol station despite the fact that there is another petrol station northbound. Those were heading to Russia. the reason is that the other petrol station is considered to be rubbish!

Just ask anyone at the market if they can take you to Koya where you can get on a 'taxi'-minibus for 7000 rupiahs (0,5euros approx). The taxi will drop you at Yotefa market in Abepura. Papuans are so helpful that they came towards me as soon as I crossed the border and found me a vehicule...

The place is called "Rastplatz Oberlausitz" (South). Perfect for Poland. Ask Polish drivers first. On my way to Krakow, I only had to ask one Polish driver and got a lift to Wroclaw (but left the car at MOP Krasnik Dolny because it's the biggest truck parking before Wroclaw). It was 5:30 in the morning.

I didn't like the roundabout becasue there was no traffic and no place to stop. I got insisde the Highway and the place was better, but is a highway so I never recommend it.

City seems really odd. But the spot is fine. Lots of truckers and french, who came just to buy cigarettes in alcohol. Be careful there.

Language: EnglishLots of panhandlers and old grizzly dudes around here, so the folks don't take too kindly to roadside peoples. Also got hassled by the cops, but it started raining, all the other dudes went into hiding and I got a ride shortly thereafter.

No shoulders, or not wide enough, and people are too rich and materialistic there, they won't even hardly look at the "bum" on the side of the road. I eventually got a few short rides over to Crestview where I then got a good long ride, but at the very least, the panhandle sucks.

Language: EnglishI had an easy time hitching along I-10 through LA, but was hassled by the cops on more than one occasion. They all thought it was illegal, but there is a loophole in their law which allows standing on the shoulder for solicitation, just not in the actual roadway. Know your rights, and they can't do anything. The rides came quick, I made it nearly to New Orleans in one day.

Language: EnglishOnce getting outside Little Rock, I was able to hitch all the way to Dallas in one day. I received maybe 8 or 10 rides the whole time between 10 minutes and 3 hours in length, and my average wait time was only 15 minutes or so. Very hitch friendly stretch of interstate, IMO.

Language: EnglishForget about it, people. In my opinion, the access roads present a major problem for the viability of hitching. People are already driving too fast, and there are no good shoulders. I had to walk south on I-35 for a good ways, before I was able to hitch a ride out of the city.
