Martinique is an island in the eastern Caribbean Sea and an overseas department of France. To the northwest lies Dominica, to the south Saint Lucia.

Like France, Martinique is an easy island to get a lift and is quite common. You'll probably only be picked up by the French/Europeans that live there, as the other locals expect you to use the buses (but still hitch hike themselves). The island is bigger than it's neighbours and it can take some time going from the north coast to the south.

Ferries to Dominica, Guadeloupe and Saint Lucia are available.

Hitchhiking a boat

Le Marin is the main marina to look for boats to hitch onwards. It is one of the biggest in the Caribbean and you will find a lot of boat and a lot of boat hitchhikers. There is basically two Marina in Le Marin. The new one, close to the big parking and the he old one called Mango Bay. Both are good to find a boat.

To get a ride, use your imagination. You can put signs, ask directly at the dinghy dock, hang out in the bars.

The two bars called Kokoarum and l'annexe are the two sailors bar. You will find many there to speak to to get a ride.

Accomodation and sleep

Since there is a lot of travelers and hitchhikers, some camps were created near Le Marin and built with what we found from the trash and includes tarps, fireplaces and everything you need to cook, sofa, mattress... You can find them on maps.me. one is up the hill behind the simply market and the other one is in the mangrove in the direction of Saint-Anne. Please respect these places and do not make many noises for the neighborhood.

Dumpster Diving

Martinique is a very nice place to dumpster dive. In Le Marin, go to Simply Market (dumpster diving friendly staff) or Leader Price (less friendly, be stealthy)
