The inspiration to this project came from the [http://www.wikipedia.org wikipedia]-project and the marvellous book of Douglas Adams - the Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy. The idea is to use the open Wiki system to gather information the same way  [http://www.wikipedia.org wikipedia] does to result to a guide similar to the imaginary ''Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy'' is in the books of Adams: a guide that knows it all and is allways up to date.

Every Hitchhiker is not only a user but also a possible contributor - a correspondent of the guide with the best possible first hand knowledge. This is not a worrk of a single mind, it's a work done by all the hitchhikers for the benefit of all the hitchhikers.   • 12 April 2024 locations for the Hitchgathering/2024 were scouted and are up for vote
  • 14 January 2024 Hitchmap is running but data quality decreased a little over the years. With the relaunch of the map in 2022, we now also want to give its underlying data a fresh start by cleaning it where it is obviously wrong so that we can get most out of it. Join our discussion around how we should clean it and tell us about your big and small issues you currently have with the map and its data.
  • 14 January 2024 The Hitchwiki GitHub got a little makeover. Discussions are now enabled. So all issue tracking and feature requests that took place in this wiki before can be moved there. Feel free to join the GitHub organization, to contribute graphics, texts and code that are related to hitchhiking but have no place in the wiki.
