Hitchhiking out

North towards Shark Bay, Carnavon, Coral Bay, Exmouth, Broome

To get North the Roadhouse 440 is a good possibility. Just catch the bus 701 from the city to the final station (Drummond Cove). From there the roadhouse is about 500m east. You can probably also ask locals for the exact location. The bus 701 is only going once in the morning (and on Sundays and public holidays there's no service), so it's important to check the timetable. You can get the timetable from the visitors center or on http://www.pta.wa.gov.au.

Accommodation and Sleep

Stuck at Roadhouse 440? Just after Roadhouse 440 is a road leading away from the highway into a residential area, which you can follow down for about 1km through the houses, across a park, over a sand dune/bushland and down to the beach. There is a shower and toilet block, drinking water and a playground (essential of course) at the beach. Walking along the beach a little away from this area there are plenty of little dunes to hide among for the night. The beach is fairly empty at night so you should be fine, though it isn't technically allowed to stay on public beaches so don't be too obvious.
