Albany is the capital of New York State. It is a very bad city for hitchhiking. Basically, it is a small downtown with a very large suburban area surrounding it. Everyone drives a car but noone picks you up apart from cops. Try to avoid it.

South from Albany there are two service stations on the I-87 though - try to get there and come back here with your results.
