Jump to: navigation, search

The Dutch motorway A1 (Dutch: Rijksweg) begins in the east of Amsterdam at the junction Watergraafsmeer and continues into the German motorway A30 in the east of the country.

The A1 is also known as the E231, between Amsterdam and Amersfoort (east of the junction with the A28/E232) and as the E30 westward until and into Germany (which it crosses entirely).

Along the way it passes the cities of Amersfoort, Apeldoorn, Deventer, Hengelo, Oldenzaal and Enschede.

  • (2) Ramp.png Diemen
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Diemen
    • Chance to get on to the motorway A9.
  • (3) Ramp.png Muiden If you want to go eastwards, walk up this ramp until you find a delivery road. Walk along this for some meters until you reach the service station Honswijck! Good.png (good)
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png Honswijck / Hackelaar Verygood.png (very good)
    • Good service station (on both sides) to get lifts towards Amsterdam or on the other side towards all of the Netherlands. Check Muiden-page for how to get there.
  • (4) Ramp.png Muiderslot Good.png (good)
    • Ramp towards Amsterdam, directly connected with the service station Hackelaar. If you want to go towards Amsterdam, it's your spot!

  • (6) Ramp.png Naarden-Vesting
  • (7) Ramp.png Bussum Average.png (average) - Bad.png (bad)
    • Towards Amsterdam, this ramp is not really useful. No hard shoulder, fast cars and nearly no space to stop for you. You could walk towards the roundabout and try it there, also the service station 100m further might be an option.
  • (8) Ramp.png Blaricum/Huizen Verygood.png (very good) in direction Amsterdam/ There is lots of space for cars to stop on the on-ramp, which is next to a carpooling place, Average.png (average) in direction of Amersfoort where there is less space for cars to stop.
  • (9) Ramp.png Laren
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Eemnes
    • Chance to get on to the motorway A27.

  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png Neerduist Good.png (good)
  • (13) Ramp.png Amersfoort-Noord Good.png (good)
    • For hitchhiking towards Amsterdam, there's some space on the hard shoulder, so possible to hitchhike. Cars drive along quite fast, so take care.
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Hoevelaken
    • Chance to get on the motorway A28.
  • (14) Ramp.png Hoevelaken
    • Towards East no hard-shoulder, but some green to stand on. Traffic low, should be okay.
  • (15) Ramp.png Barneveld
    • No hard shoulder in direction east, but it's ok to stand on the side of the road, cars can stop there. Just be extremely careful.
    • Also junction towards the Dutch A30.
  • (16) Ramp.png Voorthuizen Good.png (good)
    • Enough hard-shoulder on this ramp eastwards for cars to stop, traffic sufficient.
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png Tolnegen Good.png (good)
  • (17) Ramp.png Stroe
  • Parking.png Jool-Hul
  • (18) Ramp.png Kootwijk
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png Lucasgat / De Hucht Average.png (average)
    • On both sides. Not that much traffic, but doable.
  • (19) Ramp.png Hoenderloo
  • (20) Ramp.png Apeldoorn-Zuid Good.png (good) (south/westbound) / Bad.png (bad) (north/eastbound)
    • Huge shoulders, ample place for drivers to stop............. If it only didn't get very little traffic because due to it's location this ramp only serves an industrial estate, a village and one or two housing estates. The majority of cars coming from Apeldoorn will take 21 when driving east or 19 when driving west. Towards Arnhem or Barneveld this ramp is doable, otherwise try to avoid it.
    • Platschi hitched here westwards in April 2011 and found it pretty easy to get a ride to Amersfoort. Also enough traffic and great shoulders.
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Beekbergen
    • Chance to get on to the motorway A50.
  • (21) Ramp.png Voorst
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png De Paal / Vundelaar Verygood.png (very good)
  • (22) Ramp.png Twello
  • (23) Ramp.png Deventer Good.png (good)
    • Good in both directions
  • (24) Ramp.png Deventer-Oost
  • (25) Ramp.png Bathmen
  • (26) Ramp.png Lochem
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png Bolder / Struik Verygood.png (very good)
    • Service station's on both sides with many cars. It's easy here to get lifts towards Germany or the other direction towards Utrecht or Amsterdam.
  • (27) Ramp.png Markelo Average.png (average)
    • Enough space along the hard shoulder to hitchhike, but not that much traffic here. Doable.
  • (28) Ramp.png Rijssen Average.png (average)
    • In direction Hengelo this ramp is quite ok, nevertheless no hard shoulder (only up when you're nearly on the motorway), but very few traffic so standing along the road is possible.
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Azelo
    • Chance to get on the motorway A35 towards Almelo.
  • (29) Ramp.png Borne-West Good.png (good)
    • Small ramp between two junctions, nevertheless good hard shoulder and enough space for cars to stop.
  • Autobahn junction.png Knooppunt Buren
  • (30) Ramp.png Hengelo
  • (31) Ramp.png Hengelo-Noord Good.png (good)
    • Quite good spot for hitchhiking westwards, traffic lights will slow down cars for you. Hitching towards Germany isn't that good, most cars only go further to Oldenzaal, but take your chance if you get a lift to Oldenzaal-Zuid! Average.png
  • Autobahn gasstation.pngAutobahn Restaurant.png t' Lonnekermeer / Veelsveld Verygood.png (very good)
    • To the east Last petrol station before Germany and for the next 120km! Best chance for you to get cars towards Germany or even Poland (trucks!).
  • (32) Ramp.png Oldenzaal
  • (33) Ramp.png Oldenzaal-Zuid Good.png (good)
    • The ramp for you if you come from Enschede! Easy to get cars towards Germany and into the Netherlands, average waiting time 7 minutes! In the other direction also a busy ramp for traffic towards the whole country. Has been a very good ramp, but recently it seems to be getting worse. Waited 2,5 hours (2 people) on a Tuesday morning without getting a ride towards Germany. When hitchhiking back in direction Hengelo, got a ride within 2 minutes, though.
  • (34) Ramp.pngAutobahn gasstation.png De Lutte Bad.png (bad)/Senseless.png (senseless)
    • Small ramp with a tiny petrol station before, but no real traffic except some trucks. Don't try it here, better walk down to Bentheimerwald services, slightly over a kilometre down the road. Place is well frequented by cops, keep that in mind when you wish to take a shortcut along the motorway. More in the section De Lutte
  • Autobahn Restaurant.png Bentheimerwald/De Poppe Average.png (average) The old customs, now converted to service station. right on the border.
  • Border Netherlands - Germany, the motorway is going over to the German A30. Take a look there for further information about this way.
